Selective Travel Management's CSR Initiative

Selective Travel Management has been operating our own corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative for over 6 years and while our impact may be small, we want to make the world around us a little bit better.

CSR has been defined by the Collins English Dictionary as: “The incorporation of ethical elements, such as the public interest and environmental concern, into the planning of business strategy.”

We are proud to advise that we have been vetted and successful in our application with CIPS Sustainability Index, confirming our CSR credentials. Selective Travel Management has split our CSR into three distinct areas:

1. Environment

2. Trading Policies

3. The Local World around Us

1. Environmental

Selective Travel Management is a professional and environmentally conscious organisation, which acknowledges the impact that travel operations may potentially have on the environment. While our own activities do not pose a serious environmental or ecological threat, our vision is to reduce our Carbon footprint, while assisting all clients and suppliers in reducing their Carbon impact.

2. Trading Policies

Selective Travel Management is dedicated to conducting our business in a socially, ethically and professional manner. Our values include integrity, passion, safety, innovation, teamwork and knowledge. We only work with reputable clients and suppliers, most of whom we have partnered with for many years. We take full responsibility for ensuring clients and suppliers are clean of slave labour, are not involved in the manufacture or sale of arms, that promotes or encourages racial, sexual or ethnic discrimination or that promotes or encourage abuse on men, women, children or animals etc.

3. The Local World around Us

Selective Travel Management believes that enthusiastic and passionate employees are the key to exceptional customer service. We continuously invest in creating a great work environment and have completed a number of employee led schemes, such as an Employee Breakout Room, where staff can sit back and relax, enjoy a game of pool or darts, watch TV or just catch up with colleagues.

In 2017 we empowered individuals to become our “Charity Champions”.  These colleagues are the voice of our staff and help decide on the events and charities that we support throughout the year. Some of the various campaigns we have been involved in over recent years include:

  •  We have been a big supporter of Habitat for Humanity NI over the past 5 years and have assisted with their annual “Big Build” event, providing staff to attend these events in Hungary and Romania. In addition, on the 31st May 2018, 5 employees spent the day assisting Habitat renovate a derelict building within Northern Ireland, which will ultimately be converted into shelter for the homeless. Additionally with this Charity, we manage their annual travel budget on a complimentary basis.
  • The World Policy and Fire Games were held in Belfast in 2013 and is the world’s fourth largest participating multi-sport event, attracting competitors from all corners of the globe. Selective Travel Management was the nominated travel supplier to the event, which attracted over 20,000 competitors and over 50,000 spectators to Belfast. As the nominated supplier, we managed the entire travel budget on a complimentary basis and every staff member was given the opportunity to “volunteer” at the event.
  • In 2016, after a major IT investment and the installation of over 100 new PC’s all existing computers were cleansed and donated to various local charities.
  • “Fun Fridays” – our “Charity Champions” run events on a monthly basis, whereby we raise funds for our nominated Charities. Events include, Fancy Dress at Halloween, Christmas, St. Patricks Day etc, “walk-a-mile” at lunch, Bake-Off’s, Children’s Party Games, Macmillan Cancer Coffee Mornings and Red Nose Day etc. All events are enthusiastically supported by our colleagues, raising funds for valuable causes.
